The Department of Economics has gained a very good reputation for outstanding research and for teaching graduate as well as undergraduate students since 1995. Many faculty members have public recognition for their academic research, hold government advisory and consultancy positions, and work for various business and non-government organizations. For an example, a former president of the Central Bank of Korea, who played a successful role in the recovery from the financial crisis in Korea in the late 90s, was a CNU faculty member. The Department provides a rigorous and comprehensive program enabling students to learn principal economic theories like micro- and macroeconomics, statistics, econometrics and information processing. Classes on various applied fields are offered by 13 faculty members. Among these subjects are labor economics, public economics, monetary economics, international economics, transportation economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, industrial organization, and economic development. Further, economic history and the history of economic theory are offered at both undergraduate and graduate level.Students may accumulate international experience through various student exchange programs with overseas universities, including Otaru University of Commerce and Kyusu Sangyo University in Japan, South Dakoda State University and Ohio State University in the U.S.A.
Career Opportunities Economics is not taught as a preparation for any particular vocation. Nonetheless, economics provides an especially relevant background for many professions. Economics graduates are very successful in going on to graduate work and to careers in business, finance, government, consulting, and other fields. |
