      Background

Gong Soo Chung attended the Seoul National University from 1969 to 1976 majoring Earth Science including 3 years of military service. He attained two MS degrees in Oceanography, one at the Seoul National University in 1978 and the other at the University of Hawaii in 1982. After completion of Ph. D. work at the University of Miami in Marine Geology and Geophysics in 1988, he joined at the Department of Geology of Chungnam National University as an Assistant Professor in 1988. Since then he has worked at the same department and he is now a Professor. Chung worked as a researcher at the Marine Geology Section of the Korea Institue of Geosciences and Mineral Resources from 1978 to 1979. He worked as a visitng researcher at the University of Texas at Austin for one year from 1994 to 1995. He is a member of GSA, SEPM, IAS, AAPG, Geological Society of Korea, and Korean Earth Science Society. He served as an editor of the Journal of Korean Earth Science Society from 2001 to 2003.
