Department of Economics

The Department has gained very strong reputation not only for outstanding researches but for superior education since 1995. The Many faculty members have public recognition for their academic research, hold government advisory and consultancy positions, and work for various business and non-government organizations. For an example, a former president of the Central Bank of Korea. The Department provides a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum for students to learn basic economic theories as well as applied fields. Basic theories includes Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics, and applied fields like Labor Economics, IO, Public Economics, Monetary Economics, International Economics, and so on. Students can accumulate international experiences through a lot of student exchange programs with overseas universities, including Otaru University of Commerce, Kyusu Sangyo University in Japan, South Dakoda State University and Ohio State University in the U.S.A.

Career Opportunities

The curricula and extra-curricula offered by the Department is intended to extend preparation for a variety of fields as well as academic strength. We believe that Economics provides an basic background for many professions. Many students taught in the Department have been very successful not only in graduate schools but also in real businesses, such as financial markets, governmental organizations, consulting firms, etc.

School of Business

This program sets up comprehensive administration courses essential for modern businesses such as personnel management, system management, labor-management relations, financial management, investment theory, the theory of monetary facilities, marketing management, circulation management, production management, business administration information system (MIS), and so on. It aims at raising managers with expertise. Running business administration agencies and research groups on matters like stock investment and enterprise, this program encourages students to pursue studies that apply to the reality. College of economics and management supports long-term exchange programs with Nagoya University, Otaru Commerce College, Kusyu Industrial College in Japan and East-North Financial Economics University in China to give students chances to study abroad. To raise the ability to deal with the exchange of information necessary for modern society, this department has set up one hundred internet-connected Pentium computers which are used for lectures and for individual practice.

Career Opportunities

A high percentage of graduates from this program gain employment. Graduates work in financial businesses such as banks, stock companies, investment trust companies, insurance companies, big enterprises, and companies run by governmental investment and research centers. It runs special study rooms within the building of the College of Business and Economics, where students concentrate on preparing for exams to become certified public accountants, licensed tax accountants, appraisers and government officers.

International Trade

We place a high value on both teaching and research with the aim of contributing to the corporate and academic community. The undergraduate program assists students in understanding and developing their unique global-leadership qualities. Courses are taught in the areas of international trade theory, foreign exchange, trade environment, trade practice, e-business, cyber-trade, and so on. Specialties include foreign languages (English, Japanese, and Chinese) for international business. Members of the department have received numerous teaching and research awards and have initiated experiential learning with courses like e-business. The department has been consistently highly ranked in national surveys.

Career Opportunities

A large number of graduates are working for the leading companies, banks, non-bank financial institutions, and other private companies. International trade related companies are another main source of job opportunities. Many graduates work in the national and or local governments, private and national research institutions, and academic areas like domestic and foreign graduate schools.

Department of Asia Business International Studies

The Department of Asia Business International Studies [DABIS] is a distinct interdisciplinary department composed of students, staff, and faculty members from diverse global backgrounds. Students of DABIS learn in a unique international environment that is conducted entirely in English. Upon completion of the program, students will be skilled in a breadth of subjects including: international business, international trade, economics, international law, political science, as well as other fields of study. In conjunction, students have opportunities to master additional languages including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. With a deep understanding of these areas along with strong language capabilities, students will be well-equipped to launch a global career in business.

Career Opportunities

After graduation the students can look to specialize in a career in international business, finance, economics, international trade and the civil service. Using the foreign language skills they have acquired in the international learning environment, there are also opportunities for graduates of the department to pursue work in prominent global institutional organizations.
