Introduction
College of Engineering is at the heart of Chungnam National University’s impetus towards becoming a better education and research institution for our region, nation and the world. As of 2014, our college is ranked as 2nd for research fund per faculty among major national universities in Korea and also has shown very competitive results in academic paper writings in international journals in recent years.
In 2014, the majority of government departments and associated governmental research institutions have completed movement from Seoul to Sejong City, the new administrative capital of Korea. We expect that collaboration between our university and governmental institutions will be the stronger than ever before. We recognize that this may come together with many responsibilities for our country and we also are proud of this callings. I am sure this is another good opportunity to elevate our university to even higher standards.
Currently, the college of engineering consists of 16 departments that can be grouped largely into 4 major groups: Infrastructure (Civil, Architecture, Environmental), Material (Chemical, Material, Textile), Mechanics (Mechanical, Aerospace, Naval), and Electronics and Information (Computer, Electric, Electronics, Information). More than 30% of engineering departments in our college are ranked among top 10 in Korea and we plan to keep improving our capability by providing better education and research support system. Industry Technology Research Institute will be expanded to Engineering Research Institute for this purpose in this year in order to impact the entire college on a broader scale and in comprehensive manner.
I believe better education of our students is the most important factor for us to move forward. Our plan is to encourage exchange of students and faculty members with other universities in Korea and abroad. Organization of class structure will need to be modified and student evaluation and feedback on classes will be fortified. Innovation Center of Engineering Education (http://www.cnu.ac.kr/~ceeca/) will take the central role for this project.
I, as the Dean of College of Engineering, will do my best to support my people and university so that they can be equipped with the capability to serve our country and our planet. Thanks for your attention.Dongil Seo, Ph.D., P.E.Dean of EngineeringProfessor of Environmental Engineering
